Fr. John Molina: Pastor

Father Molina was born in Colombia, South America where he worked for several years in the area of rural development. In 1999, he came to Prince Edward Island as a political refugee.  After some years at St Augustine’s Seminary in Toronto, he was ordained a priest for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Charlottetown in 2005. He has served as Pastor and collaborated in various parishes in the Island, including Charlottetown, St Peter’s bay, Morell, Kensington, Stratford, Fort Augustus, Vernon River and the Bascilica. Father Molina serves the Diocese as Chancellor and is an Adjutant Judge at the Halifax Regional Catholic Marriage Tribunal. Recently he was appointed Pastor at St Francis of Assisi Parish in Cornwall, St Martin of Tours, Cumberland and  St Anne’s Parish in Emyvale.

Rev. John Molina has a License and a Diploma in Philosophy from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana (Bogota – Colombia); He also has a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Divinity from the University of Toronto and the Toronto school of Theology. He has also obtained a Master’s Degree and a License in Canon Law from St Paul’s University and the University of Ottawa.

The last visit to Colombia was March 30 to April 26.

Fr. George Palamattam CMI : Associate Pastor

Fr George is the firstborn of seven children, 6 boys and a girl. His six siblings together have 15 children of whom 9 are already married, who together have 16 children. His only sister’s, only daughter, is a nun of the Franciscan Clarist Congregation with a doctorate from Angelicum, Rome, in Scriptural Studies. His Father died in June 1979 and his mother, is now 93 years old. He is a Religious Priest belonging to the first indigenous Religious Order of India, the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI) established in 1831 by St. Chavara Kuriakose Elias.

Fr George had four years of preparatory religious formation, and did his religious commitment in 1965 May. He has bachelor’s degree each in Philosophy, theology, and commerce & accounting, a postgraduate degree in Commerce and business management and a doctorate in Educational Administration.

Fr George was ordained priest on 1978 October 28. From 1976 on-wards, he was in the teaching faculty of a university college, Sacred Heart College, Thevara, Cochin in Kerala, India, and later was the Principal of the college for eight years with 2500 students and over 200 staff. Fr George retired from the college in 2000 and was instrumental in starting two other educational institutions.

From 2004 December onward he has been in Canada, first simultaneously as pastor of St. Patrick’s and St. Lawrence parishes in Hamilton Ontario with an associate. In 2012 he was moved to Sacred Heart Parish in Hamilton and in July 2015 he joined the parish of the Most Holy Redeemer, Charlottetown as pastor. On the 15th of June 2017 he was moved to the Good Shepherd Pastoral unit, Cornwall and appointed the associate pastor of Fr. John Molina.

Fr George sometimes writes in newspapers, magazines and periodicals, and he was the editor of a Catholic monthly for a few years along with his teaching assignment. Often, he writes in the Guardian Newspaper in Charlottetown. Fr George used to have a regular personal reflection column in the Church bulletins in Canada from 2005 on-wards. He proposes to continue that reflection and will post in the parish website under the "Priests' message" link ( to your left) and may post on Facebook.


Karen MacCannell : Pastoral Associate/Youth Minister 

Karen resides in Meadow Bank and has been a parishioner at St. Francis Parish for 23 years and has been a Pastoral Associate at St. Francis of Assisi Parish for 14 years. She is also a graduate of the Canadian Youth Ministry Program. Her main duties include: Director of Religious education and Youth Ministry  for the children and youth of the Pastoral Unit as well as assisting all parents in their challenging role as the first teachers of the faith for their children
Other responsibilities include: 1.) Caring Community Chair ( screening ) for the Pastoral Unit as well as a member of the Diocesan Caring Community Committee. 2.) Ecumenical Representative for St. Francis of Assisi. 3.) Music Ministry Coordinator 4.) Oversees scheduling of special events and celebrations. 5.) R.C.I.C. 6) Funeral Ministry 8) Outreach Coordination.
First Aid / CPR certified, NVCI, ASSIST, Safe Food Handling certified.
**Presently enrolled in an online diploma for Childrens Mental health.


Parish Information

St Francis of Assisi Office Hours: 

In general the office will be open from Monday to Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 9:30- 12:00pm on Fridays. We encourage you to utilize the morning hours for office as much as is possible as sometimes the afternoon hours may be limited due to pastoral calls out of the office.

Baptism: One months notice, please.

Reconciliation (Confessions) : Before weekday masses or by appointment at St. Francis of Assisi Parish - Saturdays: 3:00 p.m and the First Friday of the month: 9am                                        

Marriage: Six months notice appreciated. Marriage preparation required.  Couples may register by calling the office at 566-3876.
